My Favorite Place

One of my favorite places is near Trout Brook under a sturdy
wooden bridge. There's a cave with a narrow hole you can crawl in
covered with a blackberry bush. I squeeze inside and smell the rich
smell of pine. Thefloor is covered with soft dark soil. I read there or
just think. There's an entrance in the corner that leads to the outside.
Near a hill on either side are huge pine trees and a trail leading up
the hill. Inside a circle of trees there is an old house that nobody
lives in. It has a caved-in roof. The house was once a light blue, but
the paint has peeled away. There's a tool shed connected to the house.
The hinges have rusted, and the door hangs open with rusted wooden
tools inside. Bits of shattered glass lie inside the house.

My Grandmother's Restaurant

At my grandmother's restaurant I can smell the home fries and
the cheese omelets. The taste of my 7-Up. the sight of plates full of
food going to customers. I can hear the bacon sizzling. I get up and go
to the kitchen to ask for a cheese omelet with homefries and bacon.
Then I go back to the dining room to get another glass of 7-Up. While
I am pouring it, I can see the foam fizzing up- the popping of
bubbles in the 7-Up. then out comes the cheese omelet with home
fries and bacon. I put the crispy bacon in my mouth, then gobble the
rest of my food down.
