Honesty

Wouldn't it be funny
if football players,
so smooth,
built up in their padding,
so experienced,
exceeding the size of their helmets,
knew what I thought
of their Astroturf?
"I'm sorry," I'd tell them,
"I don't appreciate how
it helps you
play the field,
or contributes to the
rate at which you
score.
It reminds me
of young, green moss
on rocks, the naive
softness my barefeet
still ache for,
stripped away,
dried out like
a grandmother's hobby."
